Ubico supports safer walking in the Forest of Dean
At the beginning of December, colleagues from Ubico, who provide environmental services on behalf of the Forest of Dean District Council, supported volunteers from Coleford Welcomes Walkers (CWW), who work to improve and promote Coleford’s footpaths and public spaces for residents and visitors to the area. CWW’s latest project, ‘Safer Walking- Working to reduce violence against women and girls’ is a local initiative to improve walkways in the area and make it safer for women and girls.
The project, which started earlier this year, involved installing fencing, the addition of new “defensive” plants and the cutting back of an overhanging canopy to improve visibility at the entrance to the Coleford to Parkend cycle track. Colleagues from Ubico’s Forest of Dean service helped volunteers continue the installation of a wooden fence and planting of defensive plants along the new fence line and cutting back of overhanging canopy to ensure a safe line of sight for those using the path. Despite cold temperatures, this work was completed within the day.
Beth Boughton, Managing Director of Ubico said:
“We were delighted to support this worthwhile project and help improve the walking conditions for residents and visitors to Coleford and to support the safety of women and girls in the area. We would like to give a special mention to our Forest of Dean team for their brilliant work and we are really looking forward to seeing the results when the project is finished!"
A spokesperson from Coleford Welcomes Walkers said:
“Coleford Welcomes Walkers are hugely grateful to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire for the funding for materials and especially to the Ubico team for installing the fencing in December. Our nine volunteers made great progress on Sunday 7th January getting most of the defensive planting in the ground. We will run another volunteer day soon to complete the project supporting Women and Girls to feel safer”
