Ubico plays key role supporting the iconic Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival
Ubico have been proud to support the 2023 Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival this week. Ubico teams work around the clock during the festival carrying out litter picking, sweeping the streets, emptying bins and dealing with ad hoc environmental emergencies. The work is meticulously planned by the Operations Team at Ubico’s Cheltenham Depot and our shareholder partner, Cheltenham Borough Council, to make sure the services are delivered as effectively as possible but with the least impact to the public.
Traffic management teams are employed to put lane closures in place so teams can litter pick safely and with minimum disruption to other road users. Road sweepers are deployed early in the morning to sweep around traffic islands, splitters and roundabouts on key routes to the racecourse.
A vast range of plant and equipment are deployed and the work is undertaken by Ubico’s experienced street cleansing teams who have a wealth of expertise between them. The day before the races teams help coordinate the provision of extra toilets in the town and site an additional 44 litter bins along access routes to the racecourse. These litter bins are emptied twice daily as a minimum to cope with the additional waste that is generated by the additional people visiting the town and the racecourse.
In March 2022, during their street cleansing activities, Ubico teams collected an additional 33% more litter waste, compared to the previous month, with some of this increase being attributed to the Cheltenham Festival.
Beth Boughton, Managing Director of Ubico said:
“The Cheltenham Festival is a very important event for Cheltenham, bringing record numbers of visitors to the town each year. With this increased footfall and activity comes a huge amount of planning, support and activity to ensure high standards of street cleanliness are maintained throughout the town. We are extremely proud of our teams, our support and management colleagues and partners for their consistently high standards of support for this iconic event”
