Our awards

Our awards

In 2022, we entered a number of awards to demonstrate our commitment to delivering excellent services to our council shareholders and their communities as well as to our people, who are the backbone of our operation. We were shortlisted for 3 awards - the National Recycling Awards, Gloucestershire Live Business Awards and the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Annual Service Awards.

Winner - National Recycling Awards

Ubico's people are our strongest asset and their training and development are key to the safe and successful delivery of key frontline services. In 2020, we created our own training centre to bring training in-house wherever possible allowing us to expand our offering and develop our skillset, improving the accessibility and flexibility of course delivery for our people, and allowing targeted and specific training needs to be met.

The MRW National Recycling Awards bring together recycling and resource management professionals to recognise and celebrate best practice and innovation in recycling and resource management. We were selected as winners in the 'employee training and skills' category for the great work delivered by our training team. According to the expert judging panel, Ubico 'took ownership for tackling key industry issues and backed it with investment and the right people. The reduction in Riddor (reportable accidents) rate and the number of drivers who qualified through the new training centre clearly showed measurable success.'

Finalist - Gloucestershire Live Business Awards

Ubico was a finalist in the 'Local Business Hero' category in the Gloucestershire Live Business Awards, in recognition of services delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our people played a key role in our response to the pandemic, admirably adapting to new systems, procedures and processes, and ever-changing guidelines to allow us to continue to deliver the majority of services throughout the crisis, even though services were being cancelled nationally.

Our teams ensured local communities still had clean, pleasant places to live and visit during the pandemic, something which was even more important as green spaces became vital to wellbeing.

Finalist - APSE Annual Service Awards

In partnership with Gloucestershire County Council, Ubico was nationally recognised as a finalist in the 'Best Efficiency & Transformation Initiative' category for the APSE (Association of Public Service Excellence) annual service awards . The annual APSE awards are widely recognised in local authorities for promoting excellence in frontline service provision.

In response to the COVID 19 pandemic, in May 2020, a booking system was introduced at all Gloucestershire County Council's Household Recycling Centres, which are operated by Ubico, to support social distancing on site. As well as providing a safe and robust environment for both residents and staff, this initiative provided a number of further benefits, including improved customer satisfaction, reduced traffic and transport and efficiencies in the operation of the system.

These efficiencies allowed Ubico to offer further opportunities to their partners at Gloucestershire County Council and in November 2021, Ubico became responsible for the transfer of food waste from central transfer stations in Stroud, Forest of Dean and Gloucester to the treatment plant in Bishops Cleeve, Gloucestershire.
